UNF students will have the opportunities to cook alongside Housing and Residence Life, attend an evening of piano-duet performance and join a short public talk on astronomy with a public stargazing.

On the UNF events website for the first week of March, these events encourage student involvement by offering interactive cooking demonstrations, musical performances inspired by beauty, mystery, and drama, as well as physics and astronomy by observing the night sky with telescopes.

Nourish Cooks with Housing

Nourish Cooks with Housing will be hosted by the UNF Living Learning Communities in collaboration with Housing and Residence Life.

Students will learn how to transform a tortilla into something amazing with fun, creative fillings, according to the UNF event page.

The March schedule includes Monday, March 2, at Osprey Hall; March 3 at the Flats at UNF; March 4 at Osprey Crossings; March 5 at Osprey Fountains; and March 6 at Osprey Clubhouse.

According to the GivePulse Housing and Residence Life mission statement, the Department of Housing and Residence Life at the University of North Florida supports the university’s educational mission by creating a positive living and learning community with the best facilities, services, programs, and support for our students.

Echoing Under Starlight

The Department of Music will host Echoes Under Starlight on March 2.

According to the UNF events website, this event offers an unforgettable evening of piano duets and two-piano repertoire inspired by the beauty, mystery, and drama of nighttime. Acclaimed pianists Mimi Zhang and David Mach from the Echo Duo will perform.

This event is perfect for classical music lovers, piano enthusiasts, and anyone looking for a unique live music experience. The piano duet concert promises to be inspiring and memorable through artistry and collaboration, according to the UNF events website.

The concert features works by celebrated composers like Sergei Rachmaninoff, Germaine Tailleferre, Witold Lutosławski, Victor Borge, Einojuhani Rautavaara, and the dynamic piano duo Anderson & Roe, along with enchanting themes from popular Walt Disney Company films.

The concert is free to attend, as stated on the event post, and is open to students, faculty, staff, the public, and alumni.

Astronomy Night

The UNF physics and astronomy department will host Astronomy Night on March 6.

According to the UNF events page, these are public stargazing events held every month. Each month features a short public talk on astronomy or a related topic. Afterward, if the weather allows, attendees will go to the rooftop for an hour of stargazing with telescopes.

John Hewitt (Jack), Professor of Physics, will organize the event. His areas of expertise include astrophysics, computational astrophysics, high-energy and particle astrophysics, high-energy astrophysics, and observational astronomy, according to the UNF faculty bio.

Students can find details, including the speaker and topic, on the COAS Physics and Astronomy Night website. This page states that the event will feature Dr. Art Omran from UNF, discussing “Life on Mars.” A guest speaker gives a short public talk starting at 8 PM.

Telescope viewings will only take place if there is no cloud cover, but the public talk will happen regardless of the weather.
