Andrew’s titles and honours, as well as Ms Ferguson’s, were axed last year by the King, in a bid to distance the monarchy from the embarrassing revelations continuing to emerge. However, at the time, it was understood that Beatrice and Eugenie’s royal standing, as well as status, would not be affected in the slightest by their parents’ misfortunes.

But a royal expert has now claimed that it is inevitable for both princesses and that the Epstein scandal will somehow affect them, leaving them with a better outcome if they were to lose their titles.

Former Daily Express royal correspondent Richard Palmer told the Mirror: “In my view, in the future, they will end up losing their royal titles.

“I think we’re going to see a lot less of them. They obviously want to keep a low profile at the moment and in future, I think they’ll just fade into the background.”

Mr Palmer said the princesses may be “better off” leaving their titles and their association behind.

He explained: “It might be cleaner for all involved. Being princesses who are non-working royals is confusing for people already because they have titles but they don’t do anything for the monarchy, they don’t do anything for the nation.

“They’re essentially just private individuals who get privileges of being members of the Royal Family – but they’re probably going to have to say goodbye to some of those privileges which they’ve enjoyed for a long, long time.”

It comes after Beatrice and Eugenie were “banned” from attending Royal Ascot this year.

The princesses would attend the famous racecourse in Berkshire regularly and they were said to be “bitterly disappointed” over the latest development.

One royal source told the Daily Mail: “The York girls have been informed they can’t be there this year.”

Another source said: “’Ascot is out of the question. The royals have been told they can’t be photographed with the girls for the rest of the year.”
