Bend live shows: Mari & the Dream, Lespecial, Tony Smiley

Published 11:30 am Wednesday, March 11, 2026

By BEN SALMON/For The Bulletin

Over the past couple of years, Mari & the Dream have been a regular presence on the local music scene, playing their boundary-busting blend of folk, funk, rock and blues at venues all over town. Now, they’re releasing a new EP, “One,” and celebrating with a show on Friday night, and local pals Mougli & The Blues and Vanderwalls are opening. Get there on time and support local music! 7 p.m. Friday, $12.24 in advance, $15 at the door, Silver Moon Brewing, 24 NW Greenwood Ave., Bend, silvermoonbrewing.com.

There’s more than one way to jam, as a double-bill this weekend at Volcanic Theatre Pub will prove. Lespecial is a power trio from the East Coast that stretches out its proggy hard-math-rock jams to five, six, seven minutes and beyond. Portland’s Yak Attack, on the other hand, construct their extended jams out of funky, jazzy rock ‘n’ electronica. Together, they’ll add up to a full night of dance-floor shenanigans. 8 p.m. Sunday, March 15, $32.43, Volcanic Theatre Pub, 70 SW Century Drive, Bend, volcanictheatre.com.

There was a time when it felt like Portland-based one-man band Tony Smiley was playing in Central Oregon every week. Perhaps I’ve missed some gigs, but he seems to have been more scarce recently. Fans of the man’s funky, party-friendly hip-hop ‘n’ rock — built piece by piece with looping technology — should know, then, that he’ll be at McMenamins Old St. Francis School (700 NW Bond Street, Bend) twice in the next couple of weeks: Wednesday, March 18 and Monday, March 23. Both at 7 p.m. Both free. Learn more at mcmenamins.com.
