  • The stock recently closed at US$165.83, with returns of 4.5% over the last 7 days, 12.1% over the last 30 days, 14.1% year to date, 34.9% over 1 year, 147.4% over 3 years and 91.3% over 5 years. These figures may prompt questions about how much of the story is already in the price.

Approach 1: Live Nation Entertainment Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) Analysis

A Discounted Cash Flow, or DCF, model estimates what a company might be worth by forecasting its future cash flows and discounting them back to today using a required rate of return.

For Live Nation Entertainment, the model uses last twelve months free cash flow of about $615.4 million as a starting point and projects cash flows forward using a 2 Stage Free Cash Flow to Equity approach. Analyst inputs cover several years, and cash flows out to 2035, such as a projected $2,318.5 million in 2030, are extrapolated based on those earlier estimates by Simply Wall St.

Pulling all of those cash flows together, the DCF outputs an estimated intrinsic value of $138.31 per share. Compared with the recent share price of $165.83, this suggests the stock screens as about 19.9% above the model’s estimate of fair value, so the DCF points to the shares trading at a premium.

Result: OVERVALUED

Our Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) analysis suggests Live Nation Entertainment may be overvalued by 19.9%. Discover 50 high quality undervalued stocks or create your own screener to find better value opportunities.

Approach 2: Live Nation Entertainment Price vs Sales

For companies where profits can be volatile, the P/S ratio is often a useful way to think about value, because it compares the share price with the revenue the business generates rather than earnings that can swing year to year.

What investors are willing to pay on a P/S basis is usually influenced by how quickly they expect revenue to grow and how risky they see those cash flows. Faster expected growth or lower perceived risk can support a higher P/S, while slower growth or higher risk usually points to a lower, more conservative multiple.

Live Nation Entertainment currently trades on a P/S of 1.53x. That sits close to the Entertainment industry average of 1.38x and below the peer group average of 3.59x. Simply Wall St’s Fair Ratio for the company is 1.95x, which is its proprietary estimate of what a reasonable P/S might look like after considering factors such as growth expectations, profit margins, industry, market cap and risk profile.

The Fair Ratio is more tailored than a simple peer or industry comparison because it builds those company specific drivers directly into the multiple. With the current P/S of 1.53x compared with a Fair Ratio of 1.95x, the stock screens as undervalued on this measure.

Upgrade Your Decision Making: Choose your Live Nation Entertainment Narrative

Earlier we mentioned that there is an even better way to understand valuation. On Simply Wall St’s Community page you can use Narratives to attach your own story about Live Nation Entertainment, link that story to a financial forecast and fair value, then see in real time how your view compares with others and with the current price. For example, one investor might focus on international venue expansion and arrive at a fair value closer to US$195, while another might worry more about regulatory risk and see fair value nearer to US$130. As new news or earnings arrive, the assumptions and fair values inside each Narrative update automatically to help you decide whether the stock looks attractive, expensive or somewhere in between.
