Courtney Lumsden met Rémi Menochet on a Hinge date in Paris the night before she was supposed to fly to the United Kingdom to visit a sick family member
After her flight was canceled, Menochet invited her to stay with him and introduced her to his family; they fell in love almost immediately
“We’re definitely soulmates,” Lumsden, who now lives with him in Paris, said
An ABBA tribute singer found her soulmate, and it’s all thanks to a cancelled flight.
Courtney Lumsden moved to Paris from the United Kingdom about nine years ago, but she had plans to return for a trip to visit a sick family member. When things went awry, she wound up meeting the love of her life.
The night before her flight, Lumsden, 36, went on a date with a French man named Rémi Menochet.
“We set up a date from Hinge,” Lumsden said, according to Kennedy News and Media. “I had been single for a year and a half, and I was against all these dating apps, but my friend suggested I give it a go.”

“We met in this really nice place in front of the Eiffel Tower on a rooftop, he was trying to impress me,” she added.
Lumsden and Menochet, 24, got dinner and “spent the whole night laughing.” Although she was sad to have to say goodbye, the professional singer soon got an email informing her that her EasyJet flight home was canceled.
“He could see I was distraught because I wanted to go see a family member who was really ill,” Lumsden said. “He suggested I go and stay with him and meet his family, which is pretty intense.”
Things moved “quick” from there as she stayed with the family for a week. Lumsden said she hasn’t “left his side” since. She added, “He came to the U.K. with me to see my family member, who has now been given the all-clear.”
The happy couple goes on adventures together, traveling to Greece, Spain and other parts of France; Lumsden lives with him in Paris, and they’re talking about formally moving in together.

“We are definitely soulmates, he is my third relationship, and it is completely different to all the others,” she said. “We’re both blown away because age doesn’t seem to be a problem, when before I wouldn’t even entertain that.”
Despite their age gap, which Lumsden said would have been an issue before, the two bonded over shared passions and are still going strong.
One of those passions is music. In particular, they’re both fans of Abba.
“We were listening to ‘Super Trouper,’ and I said ‘Let me show you something,’ and I showed him my ABBA tributes,” Lumsden recalled. “He seemed to be the right one. We are just like soulmates, best friends, we find it really hard to be without each other.”
Even EasyJet has supported the lovebirds, with a spokesperson saying, “While we do everything we can to avoid cancelled flights, we are pleased with what this led to for Courtney and her partner and would like to offer both of them a return flight each to use in the future.”
