KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Fans at Kauffman Stadium for the Kansas City Royals’ home opener on Monday will get a special treat, according to James Elliott, a liaison between sporting teams and the military.
A-10 Thunderbolt IIs, commonly referred to as “Warthogs,” of the 442nd Fighter Wing at Whiteman Air Force Base in Knob Noster, Missouri will fly over the stadium to begin a new season at The K. Each of the “KC Hawgs” features a “KC” emblem on its tail.

Kansas City Royals finalize 26-man roster ahead of Opening Day 2026
The same planes flew over the stadium for the previous home opener, which fell on Opening Day for the Royals at Kauffman Stadium in 2025. Now, they’ll have to wait until after a three-game series vs. the Atlanta Braves beginning on Friday.

The flyover will take place on Monday, March 30. The Royals will be playing the Minnesota Twins at The K with the first pitch set for 3:10 p.m.
