Jane Kaczmarek married her high school sweetheart Rusty Long after they reconnected at their 50th high school reunion
The couple’s July 2025 wedding in Wisconsin included their children and grandchildren in a barn ceremony
Kaczmarek describes their romance as a “fairy tale” and says they split time between Wisconsin and California
Jane Kaczmarek is enjoying her first few months of newlywed bliss.
On Tuesday, April 7, the Malcom in the Middle star, 70, appeared alongside her costars Bryan Cranston and Frankie Muniz on Good Morning America and was asked about the “special guest” she brought with her to the taping.
“This year has been… we did this,” Kaczmarek said, referring to the reboot of the Disney Channel show, Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair. “I went to my 50th high school reunion.”

“And my best friend had married my boyfriend-then’s best friend and said, ‘Would you like to see Rusty again?’ And we got back together and we got married this summer,” she continued of her high school boyfriend. “A fairytale!”
“So we’re spending a lot of time in Wisconsin. Rusty still is practicing… he’s a corporate bankruptcy attorney,” explained Kaczmarek, laughing. “So we’re between Mequon, Wisconsin, and Pasadena and life couldn’t be better.”
Prior to reconnecting, both Kaczmarek and her now-husband Rusty Long each married and welcomed kids. Kaczmarek married actor Bradley Whitford and they share three children — Frances, 28, George, 26, and Mary Louisa, 23. They divorced in 2010. Long is a father of two himself and has two grandsons, ages 7 and 11.
Earlier this month, Kaczmarek spoke with PEOPLE and detailed her love story with Long, which rekindled in 2024 after she attended her 50th high school reunion.
The actress says their connection “was just immediate.”
That night, Long accompanied Kaczmarek home, said hello to her mother, and then, “we went in the living room that hasn’t been redecorated since 1968 and just made out on the couch.”

That spark continued through February of 2025 in Pasadena, Calif., when the pair attended a Robert Burns-themed gathering filled with bagpipes, haggis and Scotch in honor of the Scottish poet. The host asked guests to make toasts, and when it was Long’s turn, “Rusty said, ‘I would like to toast to romance. I’ve been in love with Jane my entire life, and I want to ask her to marry me,’ ” Kaczmarek recalled. “It was heaven.”
All three of Kaczmarek’s kids were in attendance for her July 5, 2025 wedding, along with Long’s kids and grandkids, during a ceremony fittingly held in a barn in the Badger State.
As for what she’s taking away from this full-circle romance with Long: “You can be really corny because part of you is still feeling like a high school kid,” Kaczmarek said.
“It’s at that part of your life now where we both had other spouses. Our children are raised, our careers have gone well. It’s like a fairy tale.”
