The Aspen Times columnist Lo Semple will interview novelist Maria Semple about her new book “Go Gentle” from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 17, at Tattered Cover Book Store’s Colfax location, 2526 E. Colfax in Denver. Tickets must be purchased in advance through Tattered Cover and include a signed hardcover copy. “Go Gentle” was named the 122nd Oprah’s Book Club pick on April 14. The novel follows a divorced philosopher who moves to Manhattan and sees her life turned bottom-side-up by a charming stranger. “This little-brother on big-sister interview will be unlike your average moderated book talk and is guaranteed to be entertaining, or your money back. Any Denver-based literature junkies, Maria Semple fans and Aspenites passing through won’t want to miss this,” Lo Semple said. ‘Six: Teen Edition,’ April 17-19

The Basalt Spring Musical team brings the queens of Henry VIII to the stage in “Six: Teen Edition” by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss. Performances are at 7 p.m. April 17, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. April 18 and at 2 p.m. April 19, located at Basalt Middle School Auditorium, 51 School St. The creative team includes Director Graham Northrup, Music Director Katie Hone Wiltgen, Choreographer Mary Bahr and Technical Music Director Chance Davis. Tickets run from $11.58 to $16.78, including fees. The high-energy 75-minute pop musical uses strobe lights. The venue offers wheelchair accessible seating. All sales are final. Locals Night at Belly Up Aspen, April 18

“Locals Night: An Evening with Jes Grew” will take place from 8:30 to 11 p.m. April 18 at Belly Up Aspen, located at 450 S. ‘Better Together’ Aspen ice skating fundraiser, April 18

Revolutions Skating Club presents “Better Together” at 5:45 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at Aspen Recreation Center. The evening show is dedicated to supporting local ice skating in Aspen. The show will feature professional world-class figure skaters Sonja Hilmer and Jordan Moeller. All proceeds benefit the Revolutions Skating Club Development Fund. ZigZag Aspen Closing Party, April 19

ZigZag Aspen is hosting “ZZS2 One Final Send,” its “one last run” free afters celebration from 3 to 10 p.m. at ZigZag Aspen, 624 E. ‘Battle of the Bartenders,’ April 20

Aspen Meadows Resort presents its first Battle of the Bartenders on Monday, April 20, from 1–4 p.m. at the West End Social patio (845 Meadows Road). Watch top local bartenders face off in three rounds — Socorro Tequila creativity, Stranahan’s Whiskey speed and an Aspen Vodka freestyle — with judges and crowd reactions deciding the crown. Journalist Jim Newton brings new book to TACAW, April 21

“First Draft: A Dialogue on Writing” with Jim Newton will take place at 6:30 p.m. April 21 at The Arts Campus at Willits. It’s a podcast produced and hosted by Mitzi Rapkin, the moderator of the event. Journalist and author Newton will join a panel conversation with his new book, “Here Beside the Rising Tide: Jerry Garcia, the Grateful Dead and an American Awakening.” The book explores Garcia’s life and the Grateful Dead’s call to building a bohemian community, and the influence of how the counterculture reshaped culture. It raises larger questions about American identity and cultural change. Attendance is free with an RSVP. It’s an all ages seated show. Those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Tote bag sewing workshop, April 22

A tote bag sewing workshop will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 22 at the Red Brick Center for the Arts, located at 110 E. Hallam St. The workshop will teach the basics of machine sewing while participants learn to make a canvas tote from start to finish. By the end, participants will have a sturdy, useful bag. Participants can choose from a mix of fun fabrics to make it their own. All materials and sewing machines are provided. This beginner-friendly class requires no prior experience and is limited to 12 participants. The cost is $32 including all supplies.
