Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel took aim at Donald Trump’s handling of the Strait of Hormuz blockade Tuesday, joking that the president was “screwing us without condoms.”
Kimmel noted that the the blockade, now in its ninth day, has disrupted global supply chains well beyond oil and gas.
Kimmel noted that vessels loaded with condoms cannot reach their destinations where they are desperately needed.
“Is there any metaphor more fitting than Donald Trump screwing us without condoms because he won’t pull out?” Kimmel said.
The remarks came after President Trump said Tuesday he was extending the ceasefire with Iran indefinitely, a day before it was set to expire.
Iran acknowledged the ceasefire extension but stopped short of confirming it would attend a new round of peace talks in Pakistan, state TV reported Wednesday.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard fired on three ships in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, seizing two of them and bringing them to Iran, according to Iranian media.
U.S. forces also boarded an oil tanker previously sanctioned for smuggling Iranian crude oil in Asia, the Pentagon said Tuesday, as the Navy moves to track down vessels tied to Tehran.
On Wednesday, a Lebanese journalist was killed in an Israeli airstrike on southern Lebanon.
Amal Khalil had been covering the Israel-Hezbollah war since it began in October 2023.
Lebanon’s health ministry said rescuers were able to recover two bodies and one injured journalist when they arrived, but that Israeli forces fired live ammunition at the ambulance, preventing the search for Khalil.
Israel’s military alleged that individuals in the village violated the ceasefire and denied that it prevented rescue teams from reaching the area or that it targeted journalists.
Since the war started, at least 3,375 people have been killed in Iran. In Lebanon, the fighting has killed more than 2,290 people.
