The Café “1974” and exhibition hall at the headquarters of the Independent Commission Against Corruption in North Point has become a popular attraction among mainland visitors since opening about a year and a half ago. As the May Day “Golden Week” approaches, the café plans to build on its success by introducing a music-themed program that highlights over half a century of anti-corruption efforts through melodies and lyrics.
Over the past five decades, the ICAC has collaborated with popular singers in its anti-corruption publicity campaigns. The Café “1974” will showcase this history by featuring songs performed by artists for ICAC initiatives, along with valuable archival materials including photographs, vinyl records, cassette tapes and CDs. Featured artists include Jacky Cheung, Kelly Chen, Miriam Yeung, Leo Ku, Daniel Chan, Jackie Chan, Kenny Bee and Joyce Cheng. The exhibition aims to give visitors insight into how integrity education campaigns in Hong Kong have evolved across different eras.
To further engage younger audiences, the café will also host live performances by Gen Z a cappella groups and busking performers starting May 1, with shows scheduled at various times throughout the day.
In addition, the ICAC will launch a range of newly designed merchandise during the holiday, including thermal mugs, notebooks, canvas tote bags in various styles and plush crossbody bags. Quantities are limited and available while supplies last.
The café and exhibition hall will also offer new coffee-themed creative souvenirs.
The ICAC expects visitor numbers to reach new highs during the May Day holiday, driven by a surge in mainland tourists. To accommodate increased demand, additional staff will be deployed at the café, and opening hours at the exhibition hall will be extended.
