Prince Harry and Meghan Markle “tried to blame others” for the failure of their Netflix collaboration, royal experts have claimed. Tom Sykes of the Royalist spoke about Harry and Meghan’s Netflix deal with Matt Donnelly, chief correspondent of Variety Magazine on the Royalist podcast.

Summarising the chat, Skyes said: “He tells me how the Sussexes have ‘tried to shift blame’ for some of the failures that have happened on their watch, he tells me that top talent does not want to work with them because they just do not need ‘an added layer of headache’.”

Speaking on the show, Matt Donnelly said: “Netflix kind of went all in on Meghan and Harry in a way they have not on most creatives, and with that has come a lot of visibility and truth into how they operate as creatives. The ultimate verdict is that they are a bit tiresome, and what this partnership has produced has not quite been meaningful.”

He then went on to discuss the issue of top talent not wanting to work with Harry and Meghan, Matt added: “I can absolutely see talent not wanting the added layer of headache. These are a highly scrutinised couple and press breaks bad around them. It might be a curse of how they’re covered!”

The Chief Correspondent also added that Harry and Meghan’s view of influencing and touching material and projects might be seen as “too invasive”.

Matt added: “If you’re coming on board to partner with someone who is a massive, prolific producer of film and television, do you really want humour, opinions and feedback from people who are from outside this space?”

After the contract ended last summer, it was replaced by a “first look deal” which gives Netflix first dibs on any new proposed shows from Meghan and the Duke of Sussex.

Speaking of what Harry and Meghan could have done differently, Matt said: “In the beginning, Meghan and Harry had similar intentions (to the Obamas). They wanted to take their cornerstone ideals as a couple and map them out across content. At the time, it seemed more achievable than it’s turned out to be.”

Earlier in April, Harry and Meghan stepped out at a star-studded private party hosted by Netflix CEO, Ted Sarandos.

A number of celebrities were in attendance at the event, including Beef season 2 stars Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan and Charles Melton.

A few days after the report, Harry and Meghan announced that they are set to co-produce a polo drama series for Netflix through their company Archewell Productions.
