Donald Trump appeared to overlook his wife Melania Trump’s 56th birthday.
The First Lady marked the milestone on Saturday, April 26, but the president made no public mention of it on his Truth Social account throughout the day, despite remaining active on the platform.
Trump continued posting repeatedly on Truth Social throughout the day, sharing a string of updates that focused on other topics. These included commentary on the alleged attack, as well as musings about potentially renaming ICE agents as “NICE agents.”
In a separate post, he shared an image of a sign reading “Donald J Trump Bridge,” drawing further attention online.
He also took time to congratulate singer Lee Greenwood, best known for God Bless the USA, and his wife Kim after they became grandparents.
“They were with me from the very beginning – Total loyalty, and Lee gave me the greatest walk on song of all time, nothing even close!!! Congratulations to you both!!! Love, President DJT,” he wrote.
Despite his online activity, there was no initial acknowledgement of Melania’s birthday until later in the day during a TV interview. While appearing on CBS, 60 Minutes host Norah O’Donnell brought up the occasion directly.
“I understand today is the first lady’s birthday? Is that right?” O’Donnell inquired, to which Trump replied, “Today is her birthday, yes. Happy birthday. Happy birthday, Melania.”
The president went on to explain that the timing of their schedule meant celebrations were limited. “Well, it was- yeah, by the time we get back here, it’s like around 12.00, and I said, ‘Happy birthday, darling,'” he said.
Last year, Melania spent her birthday in Vatican City while attending the funeral of Pope Francis. At the time, Trump told reporters he intended to celebrate with her aboard Air Force One, describing it as a “working birthday.”
Insiders have claimed First Lady tends to favour more private celebrations away from the spotlight.
“Melania likes a low-key celebration with family and that I believe is her plan for this year’s birthday,” the source told PEOPLE.
