There are dozens of events happening this weekend. If you don’t where to start, here are five festivals, or otherwise special events, worth checking out:

ADVERTISEMENT- Soundpony in Tulsa celebrates its 20th anniversary on Tuesday. So, it’s not technically this weekend, but relax. The dive bar will host live music sets by Fabulous Minx and a one-off reunification of Ghosts.
Harlan Rogers, an Oklahoma City keyboardist, died on April 20. He was a member of the 3rd Avenue Blues Band, the Christian jazz group Sonlight and the Christian jazz-funk band Koinonia. He also toured and recorded with gospel singer Andraé Crouch, bluegrass musician Ricky Skaggs, Christian artist Keith Green, trumpeter Phil Driscoll and dozens more. He was 82.
The home of Teegarden Studios in Tulsa is for sale. The building at 1431 E. 3rd St. has been David Teegarden’s recording pad since moving from Natura Digital Studios in Beggs in 2017. The listing agent, Brian Frere, says the owners are looking for a local buyer to be a good steward and preserve its history. He also says most of its recording equipment will also be available in the sale. See the announcement and some photos here.
Starlight Mints’ album Drowaton just celebrated 20 years. In honor of that anniversary, Allan Vest sat down to discuss the album with his wife and doubleVee bandmate Barb. They talk about the recording process and collaborators, and break down each song. Watch the video below.
Indie-pop musician Casii Stephan and folk guitarist Ramsey Thornton are in the first round of official artists unveiled last week by AmericanaFest in Nashville. The Tulsa artists will join Judy Collins, Langhorne Slim, Melissa Etheridge and dozens more. See the list for the September festival here.
Toby Keith is set to get another honor. Fresh off the heels of the approval of Toby Keith Expressway and the proclamation of Toby Keith Day, the late country music star will soon also be the namesake for Toby Keith Memorial Interchange at I-35 and Indian Hills Road in Cleveland County. The authors of Senate Bill 1475 say it will honor TK’s life and legacy and recognize his contributions to Oklahoma. The bill passed both legislative chambers and awaits Gov. Stitt’s signature. Maybe one day this newsletter will be called The Toby Keith Bulletin?
OKC musician Mariposa Velasquez released the hyperpop album, metamorphosis, in late 2024. Fast forward to last week, which saw the release of a new music video for the song “NVMIFEELNUMB.” Watch it below.
3 Dachshunds Records in Edmond closes for good on Thursday. Owners Jack and Betty Ware plan to retire after 12 years in business at 109 E 2nd St. New vinyl is 25% off, vintage vinyl is 40% off and used CDs are just $3 each.
Secret Swap Meet takes place in OKC this weekend. Musicians and gear heads can go to 1113 N. Western Ave. on Saturday, starting at 8 a.m., to buy, sell and trade vintage instruments, studio gear, vinyl records and more.
