Meghan Markle skipped the Met Gala, but it repoertedly had nothing to do with her alleged falling out with Anna Wintour.
On May 4, the annual Met Gala took place on the first Monday of the month. Held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the theme for the fashion event was, Costume Art. A-list celebrities, such as Sabrina Carpenter, 26, Margot Robbie, 35, and Nicole Kidman, 58, arrived at the event in their stunning themed gowns. Despite annual speculation that she would attend, Markle, 44, did not attend the Met Gala because she had other plans.
On May 2, the former Suits actress attended the First Communion ceremony at the Holy Name Cathedral in Illinois. She made the trip because she is the godmother of her close college friend’s child. She wore an elegant beige turtleneck while her godson received the Holy Eucharist for the first time.
Markle arrived early at the church. The Duchess did not enter the cathedral through a separate entrance. She then waited with other families and friends in the pews as the special ceremony took place.
Special accommodations were not made for the star, according to an insider. People confirmed she then went back home to Montecito, California, after the trip ended.
Markle previously attended Northwestern University in Chicago from 1999 to 2003. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in theater and international studies.
Markle’s absence from the Met follows reports that her relationship with Wintour has turned hostile, with sources claiming Wintour has soured on the Duchess.
Before making the trip to Chicago, Prince Harry’s wife spent time with their four-year-old daughter, Lilibet. On April 30, the With Love, Meghan host posted a series of clips to her Instagram stories.
The mother/daughter duo showed off their chicken coop to Los Angeles-based chocolatier Jonathan Grahm. In a pair of videos featuring the Sussexes’ Montecito mansion in the background, Lilibet, the red-haired youngster who wore a pink dress, could be heard speaking in an adorable American accent.
“When the chocolate man comes to see the chickens. Compartes is here, and there’s Hill and Jill!” Meghan said.
Lilibet, whose face was hidden, called out to her mother and shouted, “Mom, I got another gray one!” The matriarch then replied, “Thanks, sweetheart!”
Lilibet has rarely been seen as the former royals have reportedly been at odds over her social media presence. Although Harry is keen to protect his kids, including Lilibet’s brother Archie, from the public eye, Meghan is open to sharing more details about their personal lives.
The Prince and his wife have cited privacy concerns as a major motivation to move to California, which is especially important to Harry given that his mother, Princess Diana, was killed in a car accident in 1997 after being pursued by paparazzi in Paris.
