Kate Middleton is preparing for her first official overseas trip since her cancer treatment, which will be a visit to Italy for research work. The news comes one year after the Princess of Wales announced she was in remission. Middleton first revealed her diagnosis in March 2024, confirming she began chemotherapy the month before. She finished the treatment, which she deemed challenging, in September. Since her diagnosis, the 44-year-old has made several public appearances at various events, including Wimbledon.

The British royal will be visiting Reggio Emilia, Italy, for a two-day work trip between May 13 and 14, 2026. Notably, Kate Middleton‘s last official overseas trip before her cancer diagnosis was in 2023. As the royal patron of the Rugby Football Union and Rugby Football League, she visited Marseille, France, to attend the 2023 Rugby World Cup Quarter Final match between England and Fiji.
According to a spokesperson for Kensington Palace, Middleton is “very much looking forward to” the visit (via Page Six). Representing the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood — which she founded in 2021 — Middleton’s trip is oriented around research involving the Reggio Emilia approach.
This is an educational philosophy focusing on preschool and primary education. Founded by Loris Malaguzzi, it is distinct from traditional education. The approach recognizes the uniqueness of each child when it comes to thinking and learning and teaches them accordingly.
As part of her work, the British royal will interact with parents, children, and local educators to see how this philosophy is practiced.
Middleton’s foundation recently launched Foundations for Life: A Guide to Social and Emotional Development. As per the official site, this new resource seeks to support those working with babies, young children, and their families.
To mark the launch, the mother of three visited the University of East London. She met with families, researchers, and students to discuss how to embed the resource into education, training, and professional development. She also interacted with representatives from a group of University and Further Education College leaders.
