PEORIA – Upstage Theatre Company hopes to soon obtain a liquor license to serve alcohol at its events.
Owner Jolene Howard went before the Peoria Liquor Commission on Monday, May 4 to request site approval for a Class K rental hall license with a live entertainment subclass at 416 Hamilton Blvd. in Downtown Peoria. The Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Hall – known as GAR Hall – is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
Howard told commissioners Upstage Theatre Company hosts musicals, murder mysteries and melodramas. Productions also include catered food, she said.
“We’d like to do some cocktails because that would be really fun to have signature cocktails for each show,” Howard said.
Currently, Upstage Theatre Company hosts shows about every other month, but Howard said they would like to offer even more moving forward.
The commission voted to recommend site approval for the space. The matter is now slated to go before the Peoria City Council during its May 26 meeting.
