Prince Harry is said to be “seriously concerned” regarding his security in the UK after the latest incident at Sandringham involving Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. A man was charged this week with two counts of threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to harass someone or cause alarm or distress after the incident near Andrew’s home on May 6.
Alex Jenkinson, 39, pleaded not guilty at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday. He is expected to stand trial at the same court on July 29, when prosecutor Josephine Jones said it is intended that Andrew give evidence via videolink.
Despite the former Duke of York’s humiliating fall from grace, the Sandringham incident has been described as a wake-up call for the royals’ security.
According to the Daily Beast’s royal editor, Tom Sykes, Harry did learn about the latest news regarding Andrew and it may have affected him.
He wrote for the Daily Beast: “Prince Harry has been made aware of the attack on Andrew, the Royalist has been told, and while he has not yet shared his reaction with these sources, they said it’s reasonable to assume he will be seriously concerned, and will now double down on his position that he simply cannot bring his wife Meghan and their children back to the United Kingdom without a comprehensive security package in place.”
He added: “Whatever you think of Harry, or the sometimes foolish ways in which he has made the security situation worse for himself, the attempted attack on Andrew shows that a way must be found to make him secure when he visits the UK.
“A decision urgently needs to be made.”
Prince Harry has previously said that he “can’t see a world” in which he would bring his family back to the UK without the security arrangements, including his children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, four.
Harry said: “I think it’s really quite sad that I won’t be able to show my children my homeland.”
