“Resilience Through Beloved Community” is the subject of a workshop by renowned teacher and author Rhonda Magee that takes place Saturday, May 16 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The event is at Grass Valley’s Unitarian Universalist Community of the Mountains, at 246 South Church Street.

Magee, who holds a law degree and a master’s degree in sociology, will teach practical skills to strengthen connection, navigate conflict, and care for others regardless of differences, while finding more meaning and joy. She focuses on individual awareness and personal growth combined with community involvement.

The author of “The Inner Work of Racial Justice,” Magee has gained awards for her innovative use of mindfulness to support social engagement and social justice as well as wellbeing and personal healing. A key aspect of mindfulness involves bringing one’s attention to the present moment without judging it. It is one of the tools she teaches in her workshops.

The event is sponsored by Color Me Human, a Nevada County non-profit. For information or to register, people can contact Curt Beckmann at [email protected]. A donation of $60 is suggested. More information can also be found on the organization’s website: www.colormehuman.org/events.
