Donald Trump invited all of the senior working members of the Royal Family to the U.S. for a state visit, but Prince William and Princess Kate declined the invitation.
And while the royal couple already had plans to visit the U.S. in June, the president may feel slighted that they’re choosing soccer over him, which royal expert Pauline Maclaran weighed in on.
William is predicted to be in Rutherford, New Jersey, on June 27 for the England vs. Panama game at MetLife Stadium. He may extend to take part in the 250th Anniversary of the United States Independence celebrations with Maclaran saying it is possible, but it’s a matter of timing.
“I haven’t seen any of this speculation, so it’s possible. However it is likely to depend on the scheduling of matches and other official duties William might have,” she explained.
If William were to stay in the U.S. through the Fourth of July, he would be able to swing by the White House, but Maclaran doesn’t see this happening, that the royals have put in their time when it comes to Trump.
“I think the royals will feel they have done their bit so far as Trump goes with the recent state visit and therefore that a further visit by William is unlikely,” she added.
William plans to take it easy while in the U.S.
In terms of Kate joining William for the U.S. visit, it may be too soon, having just been to Italy, according to Maclaran.
“She’s just made her first international visit since her cancer so she may wish to avoid another so quickly,” she said.
“It was certainly rumored at one stage that the whole family might go. However this would mean taking the kids out of school so it seems unlikely,” she clarified.
