Meghan Markle was savaged by fans online after posting a series of “cringe” videos of her and Prince Harry celebrating their eighth wedding anniversary in Montecito, California. The Duchess of Sussex has been very active on social media today, marking her special day.
She posted 24 new unseen photos from the wedding ceremony and reception, as well as a series of videos and photographs from the whole Sussex family celebrating at home. In the clips posted on her Instagram stories, Prince Harry could be seen bringing an elderflower cake with four candles on it, and also giving the Duchess a wooden sculpture of two penguins embracing, an ode to when the two dressed up as penguins at a party following their engagement. But some fans were not impressed with the flurry of intimate videos and took to social media to criticise the Duchess.
One user wrote on X: “This is beyond CRINGE & so performative!
“Dozens of pics of their Spectacle, cake w candles?? Who blows out candles on their anniversary??
“And Penguins?? (Rem when H claimed she sang to seals? [laughing face emojis]) She is the definition of EMBARRASSING A*.”
Another one said: “So no other year does she make all this fuss then no one turns up in Switzerland and she has bombarded the internet with wedding pics and a cake with candles [laughing face emojis] she is tragic.”
A third one commented: “This is so so cringe! If these were personal family moments and not contrived then why would you need the world to see them?? Even their anniversary is all about ‘Mama’! What did she buy him? Her presence?”
A fourth one opined: “The penguins represent their ‘lifelong commitment’ to being a couple of grifting snakes.”
A fifth one added: “This is getting sickening… Every day they celebrate themselves. I have never seen anything like it.”
