EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” will get a special three-week engagement in 70 mm at the Westwood’s historic Village Theatre beginning July 17, the American Cinematheque announced Wednesday.
The special engagement is in partnership with Universal Pictures and the Village Directors Circle.
“Presenting Christopher Nolan’s latest epic in glorious 70mm on the largest traditional theatre screen in Los Angeles is an honor for the American Cinematheque,” said American Cinematheque Artistic Director Grant Moninger in a statement. “The Village booth will be fitted with restored dual 70mm projectors to ensure a world-class presentation throughout the entire run.”
There will be three showtimes a day, and tickets for the showings will go on sale Thursday, June 4, at 9 a.m. PT.
The AC said the three-week run of Nolan’s “The Odyssey” is part of a select number of engagements and special events its programming as a fundraising effort ahead of the Village Theatre’s fall closure in the fall for a year’s long renovation and restoration.
“The Odyssey” is Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s mythic saga. It was filmed with new IMAX film technology.
It stars Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Samantha Morton, Zendaya and Charlize Theron.
“The Odyssey” opens in cinemas everywhere July 17.
Nolan’s most recent film, 2023’s “Oppenheimer,” earned seven Academy Awards, including for best picture and directing.
