Rosie O’Donnell is sharing the best parts of being a fifth-time grandma.Chatting with PEOPLE at the 2026 Tony Awards on Sunday, June 7, in New York City, Rosie, 64, shared what the best parts of being a grandma have been following the birth of her son Blake O’Donnell’s first child, Anthony Joel, with his wife Teresa in March.Rosie, who is set to star in her own one-woman show on Broadway, coming later this summer, tells PEOPLE about some of the most unforgettable moments she’s shared with her grandson so far.

“To see my son as a parent and to remember him as a baby — it is absolutely — I can’t stop crying,” she says.Rosie has five children, four of whom she shares with Kelli Carpenter: sons Parker, 30, and Blake and daughters Chelsea, 28, and Vivienne, 23. Her youngest child, Clay, 13, was shared with her late ex-wife, Michelle Rounds.Continuing, Rosie says: “[Blake] will say to me, ‘Mommy, I don’t want you to be upset, but the baby’s really into me, and you might not get to hold him that much. First I was p—ed, and then I thought, wait a minute, that’s a beautiful thing.”

Rosie then shares the sweet thing Blake has been saying to get his newborn baby to stop crying. “He looks at him and goes, ‘Hey my baby boy,’ And [the baby] starts laughing, and he’s only 2 months old,” she shares.
Rosie announced the arrival of her son Blake‘s baby boy on Instagram on Saturday, March 28. “Anthony Joel O’Donnell has arrived! And my heart burst open,” Rosie captioned a black-and-white photo of her grandson’s foot in the hospital.

“Congratulations to mama Teresa n Blake Christopher — I love u so ❤️❤️❤️,” she added.The couple announced they were expecting their first baby in an Instagram post a year after tying the knot. In the post, Blake and Teresa shared a photo of a onesie with “Baby O’Donnell March 2026” written on it as it hung on a clothesline next to a sonogram photo in a field of sunflowers.
Rosie welcomed her fourth grandchild in 2023, when her daughter Chelsea gave birth to her first son, Atlas. Chelsea is also a mom to daughters Skylar Rose, 7, Riley, 5, and Avery Lynn, 4.
