The FIFA World Cup kicks off this Thursday, and Rihanna is ready to serve those game-day looks.
Yesterday, the singer was the most supportive music WAG as she headed to partner A$AP Rocky’s Governors Ball Music Festival performance. The festival took place in Flushing Meadows Corona Park in New York’s Queens, and for the occasion, Rihanna pulled off the coolest, most extravagant sports-inspired fit—instantly altering out brain chemistry.
If to this day you still think sports jerseys are boring, Rihanna is here to prove you wrong, once and for all. The “Diamonds” singer—and jersey devotee—slipped on an oversize, dark chocolate-brown version of Peyton Manning’s #18 Colts jersey. The football jersey designed by Conner Ives had a V neckline and loose sleeves, and Rihanna expertly matched her chunky white sunglasses to the white details on the baggy top.
Who needs pants when you have a black, slinky, stretchy, ruffled skirt? That’s what Rihanna paired her jersey with. And on top, she layered what else but an oversize, black. floor-length cape? (See photos here.)
There was shock, there was drama, there was glamour. And yes, black and brown is still a color combination that works.
A pair of the Jacquemus x Nike Moon Shoes in a bronze “Fauna Brown and Cashmere” colorway, featuring a ruched nylon upper, completed the fit, while a brown monogram Louis Vuitton bag added that pop of luxury that one can find in any Rihanna ensemble. Layers of gold chain jewelry were the cherry on top.
Rocky dialed down on the maximalism this time around, leaving Rihanna to take the entire spotlight. But the rapper can’t help but look cool every time he steps out, and last night, he pulled off an easy white dollar bill-print T-shirt from his creative agency, AWGE, baggy jeans, a gray hoodie, and a black beanie (also from AWGE), styled with Prada’s America’s Cup sneakers in pistachio green and silver. Diamond studs and a silver chain rounded it all out.
Apart from the World Cup, this summer will bring more F1 races and the U.S. Open—not to mention the current NBA craze that has taken over New York City thanks to the Knicks’s winning streak. Needless to say, our wardrobes are in need of a sporty makeover. And wherever Rihanna leads with her style, I’ll follow.
