Adelaide Cottage was reportedly never part of Prince William and Princess Kate’s “original plan“ as the pair were compelled to “compromise”, Royal insiders have revealed.
Kate and William, both 43, are believed to have hoped to bring up their three kids at Royal Lodge, but Prince Andrew declined to vacate.
The pair relocated to Adelaide Cottage in 2022, but only after their first choice seemed unattainable.
After departing Kensington Palace, Kate and William are believed to have set their sights on the 30-room Royal Lodge for Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and seven year old Prince Louis.
Adelaide Cottage sits approximately three miles from Royal Lodge, where Andrew and his former spouse, Sarah Ferguson, have resided since 2003.
A Royal insider told the Mail on Sunday: “Them going into Adelaide Cottage was never the plan. But they were forced to because Prince Andrew wouldn’t shift.”
With their departure from Adelaide Cottage happening imminently, the family-of-five will be relocating to Forest Lodge.
The relocation is believed to be scheduled for the coming school break, an ideal moment for George, Charlotte and Louis to settle into their new residence.
Forest Lodge, similar to Royal Lodge, sits amid tranquil surroundings, with abundant woodlands and open areas close by.
The eight-bedroom Georgian estate will reportedly provide the family with a “fresh start”.
A reliable Royal insider revealed that the couple is moving to start anew, following a series of personal hardships in recent years.
The insider stated: “It’s not just about her [Kate’s] cancer, the Queen died while they were living at Adelaide, and there were all the attacks from California.
“They both want a fresh start, and moving to Forest Lodge offers them that.”
