X-Men actor Tyler Mane is opening up about being diagnosed with a “super rare” case of male breast cancer.
Mane, 59, shared the news in an Instagram video on Monday, June 8, revealing that he was starting chemotherapy.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, breast cancer among men is rare and usually makes up just one diagnosis among every 100 breast cancer diagnoses in America.
“Yep. I have breast cancer. And yep, it’s super rare. Only 1% of breast cancers are men,” Mane wrote alongside his video.
Mane continued, “I’ll be honest, my first reaction was to keep it secret. I mean it’s kind of embarrassing. But then I found out that men are more likely to be diagnosed in advance [sic] stages BECAUSE it’s not talked about and not looked for. In fact, my doctors all dismissed it, and it was only because my wife pushed me to get the lump removed that I got in early.”
“So let’s start talking about it! 1 in 755 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, and if caught early, it’s VERY treatable,” he wrote.
In a video update on Tuesday after his second chemotherapy session, the former professional wrestler said, “I got this. F*** cancer.”
“Thank you so much for all the love, everyone. I greatly appreciate it,” he wrote alongside the video. “I got this. I’m gonna kick cancer‘s ass. Thank you for coming along for the journey. We need to spread the awareness. Cancer sucks, but if you catch it quick enough, you can win this battle.”
Mane first rose to fame playing Sabretooth in 2000’s X-Men and reprised the role in 2024 in Deadpool & Wolverine. He also played Michael Myers in the 2007 reboot of Halloween, as well as its 2009 sequel.
“We were shooting out in a rock quarry, and we’re about, I don’t know, 20, 30, feet away, and I saw him,” Mane told BuzzFeed in 2025 of reuniting with Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman on the Deadpool & Wolverine set. “He saw me. We just kind of ran to each other and hugged each other like no time had passed. I was like, ‘Oh man, this is so cool!’”
In the interview, Mane also recalled how long it took for him to get into costume and makeup to play Sabretooth in the original 2000 film.

“It took about two and a half hours, three hours to get ready,” he shared. “I had those big sclerals [contact lenses] that they’d put on, and after that, you can’t really see anything, and you’re wandering around. I had long hair back then and a Fu Manchu mustache, but they definitely added quite a bit of the hair.”
“I would bring Rebecca cookies when she was getting ready. She’d be about eight hours into her costume, and I’d bring her a bag of her favorite cookies,” he added, referring to costar Rebecca Romijn, who played Mystique. “Her costume process was horrible, and when she was done, everything was blue in the trailer!
