The Seraphites are expanding their numbers in The Last of Us season 3.
The Emmy-winning HBO drama, based on the hit video games from developer Naughty Dog, added Peter Sarsgaard from The Batman and The Bride! as Amon, one of the leaders of the religious cult in and around Seattle, Entertainment Weekly has learned.
Amon is not a character featured in the source material, which comprises 2013’s PlayStation-released The Last of Us, 2020’s The Last of Us Part II, and the alternate-media companion stories.
The other big update is that production, which takes place in Vancouver, is going on hiatus. The break was always planned for mid-shoot in light of the World Cup, which has touched down in the area and now makes filming on location difficult. The crew, comprised of thousands of workers, are taking this as a rest period before they get back to the grind.

Deadline was the first to report the news.
As signaled by the season 2 finale, The Last of Us season 3 jumps back in time a few days to the arrival of Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Dina (Isabela Merced) in Seattle while on the hunt for Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), the woman who killed Joel (Pedro Pascal). The timeline will now unfold primarily from Abby’s perspective and expand the world further.
Viewers met the Seraphites in season 2. They are currently at war with the Washington Liberation Front (a.k.a. W.L.F., a.k.a. “Wolves”), the militarized group of survivors run by Isaac (Jeffrey Wright). The W.L.F., which also includes Abby and her crew, refer to the Seraphites with the slur “Scars,” after the ritualistic slashes that typically mark the faces of their members.
As we progress through Abby’s Seattle journey, we’ll meet more Seraphites, the most prominent being siblings Yara (Michelle Mao) and Lev (Kyriana Kratter). Clea Duvall plays a different member of the cult, though her identity hasn’t been confirmed.
The cast of The Last of Us season 3 will also include Patrick Wilson, Jason Ritter, and Jorge Lendeborg Jr.

Wilson will play Abby’s father, Jerry Anderson, the Firefly surgeon Joel killed in the season 1 finale to save Ellie from the operating table. Ritter, who previously appeared in the background of season 1 as a Clicker, will now play a more prominent role as a W.L.F. soldier named Hanley.
Lendeborg, meanwhile, will take over the role of Manny, a member of Abby’s crew played by Danny Ramirez in season 2. Ramirez departed the show due to scheduling conflicts.

A premiere date has not been set, though HBO head Casey Bloys previously signaled that The Last of Us season 3 will premiere sometime in 2027.
Craig Mazin, who developed the series with game co-creator Neil Druckmann, now serves as the sole showrunner and lead writer. Druckmann, who scaled back his responsibilities to focus on making Naughty Dog’s next big game, remains attached as an executive producer.
