In the book’s foreword, Røkeberg writes that part of this project felt like traveling in time to “a distant era that existed long before the advent of polyester, artificial food supplements and mobile communication.” Looking at some of the glossy black-and-white and color portraits of soldiers in full ceremonial dress, with some of their detailing going all the way back to King Henry VIII, it’s not hard to see why Røkeberg felt that way.
“However, the Household Cavalry is far from anachronistic,” Røkeberg continues. “Their ceremonial duties are performed to perfection and are undeniably recognized with envy around the world. Yet, they are at the very forefront of the modern British Army. The Household Cavalry proudly straddles the entire history of the British Army.”
