Two movies filming in St. Louis this August

ST. CHARLES, Mo. — Two films, “Jacob Beats Up Nate” and “Summer 2001” are set to be filmed in St. Louis this month and next according to a call for extras put out by a local casting company.

“Jacob Beats Up Nate” is a comedy movie set in St. Louis that is written and directed by J. Lee. The film received a $100,000 grant from St. Louis Film Project in April. The grant sponsors require 75% of the grant funds to be spent in St. Louis City and for the film to be complete by January 2026. Darryl Frierson is listed as the grant recipient for the project. 

According to a synopsis on the Regional Arts Commission of St. Louis’ website, “Jacob Beats Up Nate” depicts the induction of sci-fi author Jacob Mann into his high school hall of fame. When he realizes that his childhood bully Nate is also being honored he decides to get revenge by beating him up.

The extras call for “Jacob” asks for males ages 16-23 to portray students at a private high school in addition to males and females of any age to be alumni hall of fame ceremony attendees, restaurant, bar and go go nightclub patrons, festival goers and car dealership employees.

The second film, “Summer 2001” is a romantic comedy starring Iliza Shlesinger that is also set in St. Louis. According to its production company, “Summer” is a nostalgic film directed by Josephine Decker about the summer of 2001.

The extras requested for it include males and females between the ages of 15-25 to act as high school students at a roller skating rink and party goers. The casting call also asks for males and females ages 26-80 years to portray townspeople, aid camp volunteers, parents, shoppers, honky tonk bar cowboys and line dancers.
