Washington is a -133 moneyline favorite, while Kansas City is +110 on DraftKings Sportsbook. The game total is set at over/under nine runs.
Let’s get into a pick and prediction for this Royals vs. Nationals game.
Royals vs. Nationals prediction, preview
Bobby Witt Jr. is having an MVP-caliber season in Kansas City, but it hasn’t been enough to put the Royals in playoff contention, let alone over .500. The Royals are 29-43, which is the worst record in the AL Central and tied for the worst in the American League. Even with consistent production from Witt, it’ll be an uphill battle to escape the basement.
The silver lining is that the AL Central lacks a true contender. Sure, the Guardians are typically the top team, but they’re tied with the White Sox for the division lead. Kansas City trails 10 games and has a favorable schedule considering they face other AL Central teams more often. Plus, it’s only mid-June. Baseball fans have seen far worse teams make the climb post-All-Star break.
The Nationals are 9.5 games back from the NL East lead and are 37-35. Washington is the better team, no doubt, but its chances of winning the division are much slimmer. The Braves top the NL East with a 46-25 record, and barring a major meltdown or slew of injuries, the team will remain hot throughout 2026. Furthermore, the Phillies are bound to heat up, at least I think so as I’ve been saying this for the past month. The Marlins are a quality .500 club, and the Mets are supposed to be threats, although this season has been miserable.
Both the Royals and Nationals need a great second half to have a chance for division crowns. And while it’s not the All-Star break yet, this is a chance to gain some momentum before the time off.
Royals vs. Nationals Pick, Best Bet
Small-market superstars are fun to watch and often easy to cheer for. Witt has been tremendous at the plate, on the base paths, and in the field. It’s just not enough to consistently win games.
The Royals need more help, and it’ll show against the Nationals. Washington has the most total runs, second most total bases, second most stolen bases, sixth most hits, and 10th best batting average this season. At some point, fans need to recognize this isn’t just a hot start—the offense is real and led by James Wood, who is also am MVP candidate.
Best Bet: Washington Nationals ML (-133)
