The Washington Nationals will look to build on Sunday’s win with a chance to get closer to evening the record at Nationals Park this season, but they will also look for their fourth consecutive series win when the Kansas City Royals head to town for the first meeting between the teams this season.
While the Nationals head into Monday sitting two games above .500 overall and one game back from the final wild card spot, they will face a reeling Kansas City team sitting at the bottom of the American League standings with a 29-43 overall record.

The Royals ended a four-game losing streak after shutting out the Houston Astros, 4-0, to close the series on Sunday afternoon. Kansas City is also coming off news that first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino could be sidelined up to six weeks after undergoing surgery on Sunday for a fractured hamate bone in his right hand.
Washington, meanwhile, is coming into the meeting scored ten or more runs for the third time already in June and 11th time during the regular season, hanging onto the MLB lead with 392 runs in 2026. The Nationals still rank top five in the bulk of major offensive categories while James Wood enters the series with a six-game hitting streak and leads all of baseball with 66 runs. CJ Abrams, meanwhile, ranks fourth across the MLB with 53 RBIs.
It was been a breath of fresh air after the Nationals saw the series finale against San Francisco flip over the final two innings before being blown out to open the series against Seattle. Yet one of the biggest takeaways may be Miles Mikolas, who closed the series with another encouraging showing after giving up no earned runs for the second consecutive outing and lasting seven innings for his longest outing as a National.
Washington will look to keep the momentum rolling into the series with Andrew Alvarez set to make his second start since being recalled last week. While they will look for their first three-game win streak since the four-game win streak in late May, the Nationals will also look to improve upon its 2-9 record in series openers at home.
