On June 15, Disney Branded Television announced it would rebrand as Disney Kids & Family. This division of The Walt Disney Company already focused on televised entertainment targeted at children and families, such as the Disney Channel and Disney Junior.
Disney Branded Television Announces Rebrand
Debra OConnell, who took over as Chairman of U.S. Entertainment Television for Disney in March amid the Bob Iger to Josh D’Amaro CEO changeover, announced the change alongside the President of Disney Branded Television (now Disney Kids & Family), Ayo Davis, on Monday. OConnell said she had reviewed and approved the rebrand after taking over as Chairman.
“Together, we have built enduring franchises beloved by kids and families around the world,” OConnell and Davis wrote in a memo to creative partners. “Our new name better reflects the creativity, ambition and storytelling we’re known for, while bringing greater clarity to the creative community about who we are and what we create.”
“While our name is changing, our commitment to great storytelling – and to all of you – remains exactly the same,” they continued in the memo, which was shared first by Deadline.
Disney Branded Television was created in 2020 under former President Gary Marsh; Davis took over in 2021. The division handles family-friendly and child-focused content for Disney+, Disney Jr., Disney Channel, and other digital platforms (like YouTube). The new name and management structure brought the division formerly known as Disney Channels Worldwide into the streaming age following the advent of Disney+.
Disney Kids & Family oversees short-form content, television series such as Phineas & Ferb and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, one-off specials, and even made-for-TV movie franchises such as Camp Rock (2008) and Zombies (2018). Notably, the division also handled the acquisition and distribution of the hit Australian television show Bluey in the United States.
