Two Shell! So confusing! Last week, the pranksterish London dance duo announced their upcoming album Infinite Now, which has some truly ugly-beautiful Y2K-ass cover art. They’d already released a bunch of singles earlier in the year, and they added the giddy, ultra-catchy “Thing About You” to the rollout. That all makes sense. Except now Two Shell have released an out-of-nowhere EP called Infinite Now+, which has a title that looks like a mysterious new streaming app that would suddenly appear on my Roku homescreen overnight, and it’s got five tracks that aren’t on the album.
Well, no. That’s not quite right. Earlier this year, Two Shell played a residency at the London club Phonox. They had special guests at all of those nights, and one of the guests was Jack Harlow. Infinite Now+ features a track called “The Nightmare [1],” a new version of a song that they released earlier this year. According to a press release, this is the “highly requested version of ‘The Nightmare’ played at their Jack Harlow Phonox Residency.” This version has strained vocals from some dude, and I guess that dude is probably Jack Harlow? If you really wanted to hear a house-diva version of neo-soul-era Jack Harlow, perhaps this is your chance.
Of the other four tracks on the Infinite Now+ EP two of them are interstitial intros that last less than a minute, and the other two are chopped-up and hyperactive takes on Y2K-era sugar-rush mega-pop and Euro-club music. Pretty fun! The proper album isn’t out until fall, but Two Shell apparently plan to release new music all summer. Stream the EP below.
The Infinite Now+ EP is out now on Young, and a press release promises “infinitely more coming sooner than you might think.”
