Princess Catherine has just taken on a major physical challenge for a good cause. On Sunday afternoon, the Princess of Wales revealed that she spent the weekend embarking on the National Three Peaks Challenge, an intense athletic feat that involves climbing the three highest mountains in the United Kingdom—Scafell Pike in England, Snowdon in Wales, and Ben Nevis in Scotland—in a matter of only 24 hours.
Kate’s decision to embark on this endurance test was twofold. Notably, this journey took place about a year and a half after she announced that she was in remission from her cancer diagnosis. She took on the challenge to highlight “the deeper impact of serious illness and the importance of holistic healthcare.”
“Every individual is different, and ensuring there is a whole person approach to care enables those living through cancer to manage the deeply personal challenge of diagnosis,” Kate wrote on Instagram, alongside a photo from the hike. “Holistic therapies complement clinical pathways and support patients’ ability to maintain their wellbeing, resilience, and quality of life during an exceptionally difficult time.”
The mother of three also embarked on this challenge to support the hospital where she received treatment. “I have taken on the National Three Peaks Challenge, not simply as a physical endeavour but as a chance to explore life beyond diagnosis and to give something back,” she added. “The Royal Marsden is a place that holds great meaning for me and whose care and expertise are life changing for so many people… This challenge will support the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, helping to transform access to, and understanding of, holistic care that will enhance recovery and healing for patients across the UK.”
Kate revealed her cancer diagnosis back in March 2024, after months of speculation around the status of her health. She finished her chemotherapy in September of that year, and announced she was in remission the following January. She and her husband, Prince William, are now Joint Patrons of the Royal Marsden Hospital.
As she finished 23-mile challenge, Kate was greeted by her husband, as well as her three kids—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, as well as her brother, James.
The Princess of Wales not only shared a photo from the expedition, but she also posted a video explaining why she decided to do it, along with a message for others who have been diagnosed with cancer.
“Together, we can stand alongside everyone navigating life with cancer, ensuring no one faces this disease feeling unseen or unsupported,” Kate wrote. “Please know you are not alone.”
