British Dressage are sharing important updates for members using music in their tests and updated insurance policy information.
Music Licencing
As of 1 July, this PPL/PRS Music licence is now fully integrated into the BD membership for all paid membership categories (excluding BD Community Members), and is valid whilst competing at BD affiliated events. With effect from the start of the new season on 1 July 2026, members will no longer need to complete a Music Licence Record Form or display music stickers when competing.
A separate music licence will need to be obtained for any event outside of BD affiliated competition through the event organiser. Please note that a British Dressage music licence is not valid for unaffiliated dressage, Riding Clubs or Pony Club competitions.
The main changes are as follows:
- As of 1 July 2026, British Dressage Members will no longer need to complete a Music Licence Record Form or display a music sticker when competing.
- The BD music licence for members is valid for affiliated BD competitions only; a separate licence is required for any event outside of British Dressage.
British Dressage Member Insurance Cover
All paid BD members (whether Full, Club or Non-Competing) receive Personal Public Liability cover and Personal Accident Insurance Cover through our legal partner KBIS. Unlike some other equestrian insurance provision, this cover extends to all horses under your ownership and is not just restricted to British Dressage competitions only.
Please note that BD Community Members are only covered if competing on a class ticket at an affiliated British Dressage competition. At all other times they are required to have their own insurance provision.
KBIS have recently issued new important documentation regarding member insurance cover, which includes:
- Overall scope of cover
- Key exclusions
- Policy conditions
- Relevant definitions
