King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William and Prince Edward have been confronted by a group of anti-monarchy protesters.
The group staged a noisy protest outside St Giles’ Cathedral for the Order of the Thistle service in Edinburgh on Wednesday.
Anti-monarchists shouted: “What did you know?” as members of the Royal Family passed them in a motorcade.
Placards held by the protesters also read: “Charles, what are you hiding?” and “Not my King”.
The messages were in reference to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The former Duke of York has vehemently denied any wrongdoing.
William, in particular, will be rattled by the demonstrations as he has made no secret of his desire to remove his disgraced uncle from royal life completely.
Charles stripped Andrew of his remaining titles and evicted him from the Royal Lodge in October 2025 following mounting pressure from the public.
The controversy surrounding the disgraced former prince escalated further earlier this year when, in February, Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
It was alleged he was involved in the sharing of information with Epstein while serving as the UK’s trade envoy.
William has repeatedly made his feelings clear about Andrew, according to royal author Russell Myers.
“Certainly, he (William) made his voice known that Andrew should have no place within the monarchy, both publicly and privately. He should be banished from the institution,” Myers said during an appearance on Newsweek’s The Royal Report podcast.
“He (Andrew) should have no role within the family because he would be a stain on it.”
The anti-monarchy protests will have hit William hard, especially as he reportedly had previously voiced his displeasure at how senior royals handled the “Andrew problem”.
“And certainly, if they were going to keep him close, as the late Queen and indeed Charles did for a couple of years in his reign, that was going to be a major problem,” Myers claimed.
The protests come just days before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to arrive in the UK.
It’s not yet known whether Harry and William will meet during the visit, with the brothers’ relationship becoming increasingly strained in recent years.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to stay in a royal residence, which has been seen by some royal experts as a sign of thawing relations.
