Princess Kate has a whole lot of “love” for tennis but also for her fans.
The future queen, 44, arrived at Wimbledon Thursday, July 2, hugging and posing for photos with crowds attending the historic tennis tournament. Her appearance is the latest in a string of royal engagements in what is shaping up to be another busy summer for the royal family.
The princess opted for a double-breasted bright blue suit and styled her hair into a chic ponytail, dazzling crowds who cheered when they saw her on day four of the tournament.
As many hopefuls lined up outside the venue in a last minute bid to secure a place to watch the tennis, Kate surprised them – dishing out tickets in the morning sun.
Wimbledon reserves a handful of tickets for same-day purchase, with some fans camping out the night before in Wimbledon Park in a bid to get their hands on a pass.
The Princess of Wales chose not to sit in the royal box, instead she sat alongside former British tennis players Tim Henman, Andy Murray and Anne Keothavong and watched the match unfold on Court 18 between Britain’s Arthur Fery and Finland’s Otto Virtanen.
Kate is a regular at Wimbledon and an avid tennis fan. She has a passion for sports and the outdoors and is patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club – a role she has held since 2016, when Queen Elizabeth II stepped down and passed the baton to Kate.

Catherine, Princess of Wales, greeted a young boy on Ben Nevis while taking on Britain’s three highest peaks to raise funds for cancer charity.
Kate’s appearance at Wimbledon came just days after she scaled the three highest peaks in Great Britain to raise money for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. The princess completed what is known as “The Three Peaks Challenge” in 24 hours, braving the wind and rain to reach the top. Last year, the princess shared that her cancer was in remission.
Kate kept is casual as she climbed the peaks, wearing minimal makeup, a hooded jacket and plain clothing. She was almost unrecognizable – though her huge sapphire engagement ring may have provided some royal clues.
It’s been a busy summer for Kate who attended Trooping the Colour last month with her children for King Charles III’s annual royal birthday celebration. She also attended Royal Ascot, dazzling in a canary-yellow dress.
The mother-of-three has rarely missed the historic tournament, reluctantly skipping it in 2013 when she was heavily pregnant with Prince George. Kate later recalled in an interview with the BBC that doctors had strongly advised her not to attend but she had been contemplating going anyway. George, who is second in line to the British throne, was born two weeks later.
In 2020 Wimbledon was canceled for the first time since World War II amid the coronavirus pandemic.
In 2024, after announcing she had been diagnosed with cancer, the princess shocked crowds as she arrived at Wimbledon with her daughter, Princess Charlotte, marking only her second public appearance that year.
Wimbledon began June 29 and ends July 12.
