In April, Céline Dion released Dansons, her first new song in three years.
Now, just over two months later, she has released a second single ahead of her sold-out run of 16 shows in Paris this fall.
Bonjour, Pardon, Merci is a sweeping ballad penned by French Lebanese singer-songwriter Ycare. The song’s message of universality comes through in the lyrics: “Qu’on soit d’ici ou d’ailleurs/ nous ne sommes que des hommes/ forgés par nos erreurs/ que seul l’amour console” (Whether we’re from here or elsewhere/ we are all only people/ molded by our mistakes/ that only love can relieve).

Ycare was inspired by the Hawaiian prayer Ho’oponopono (Forgive me, thank you and I love you), which he learned is recited every morning while facing the ocean to unload emotional burdens.
“I thought about the trials and tribulations we all have to endure. So, I wrote lyrics of resilience and gratitude,” Ycare shared in a press release.
Bonjour, Pardon, Merci was recorded in Las Vegas and Ycare remembers Dion’s voice ringing out as if it was “splitting the sky and coming back down to blow us away with its power and finesse.”
The accompanying lyric video was animated by Chinese Canadian award-winning motion artist Yoho Yue.
A 12-inch vinyl EP including Dansons and Bonjour, Pardon, Merci will be released on Sept. 4 and is available for pre-order now.
On top of her fall residency at La Défense Arena in Paris, Dion will perform 10 additional shows in May 2027.
It’s been a long-awaited return to stage for the Québecoise icon, following her diagnosis in 2022 of stiff-person syndrome. Other than her surprise performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony, she has not performed live since March 2020.
