Mason Thames, Dave Franco and O’Shea Jackson Jr. are going on one hell of a ride in their new movie.
On Thursday, July 9, IFC Films released the trailer for the trio’s new slapstick comedy Idiots, in which Franco, 41, and Jackson Jr., 35, portray two men who get in over their heads when they are tasked with transporting a “maniac” teenager (Thames, 18) to a rehab facility. Despite receiving warnings about the teen’s behavior, Thames’ character quickly gets the two men into a world of trouble, including a meeting with criminals portrayed by Peter Dinklage and Nicholas Braun and an appearance from Kiernan Shipka.
“Two unqualified bozos are hired to transfer a rich teen to rehab when their straightforward gig quickly spirals into dangerous mayhem,” reads an official synopsis for the movie.
Idiots is produced, written and directed by Macon Blair, known for his work with Dinklage in movies like Brothers and The Toxic Avenger. (Blair also appears in Idiots as an actor.)
“The big spectacle of the movie is the ensemble: it’s a pile-up of dynamite actors going full tilt through broad slapstick comedy, chase movie shenanigans, nasty human darkness and ultimately a hopeful friendship story,” Blair said in a statement. “From the on-fire leads to the scene-stealing cameos, it was a plain delight to watch every single one of these folks work at being Idiots.”

Idiots made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January under the title The S—heads. Franco said during a Q&A at the event that he and Jackson bonded when they worked together in the past. “We feel safe with each other. I just love you, man. And I feel that because of that we’re able to take these huge swings and do weird shit,” he said at the time, per Sundance’s website.
“Dave told me he needed me for a project and he felt like I could kill it,” Jackson said of their rendezvous for the new comedy. “When you hear one of your friends say that, it gets personal — and you feel like you can’t let them down.”
