The actress is revisiting the sitcom through her new podcast, Still Hot in Cleveland
More than four years after the death of Betty White, her former Hot in Cleveland costar Valerie Bertinelli says the sitcom legend still feels remarkably close.
As Bertinelli, 66, revisits the beloved series through her new “nostalgia-cast” Still Hot in Cleveland, she tells PEOPLE in an exclusive interview that her memories of White remain strong.
“There’s never been anything but joy when I think of everything Hot in Cleveland. because I mean, we had so much fun,” the actress shares. “And I knew at the time, I said, ‘This will never happen again’ in my head. Every morning when I would wake up, I’m like, ‘I get to go to work, I get to hang with Betty, I get to hang with Jane and Wendy and Suzanne and Michael Berger and Todd and all the writers and everybody on the crew we just made lifelong friends with.’ “

She continues: “Yeah, there’s never been anything but happiness.”
Still, since White’s death at age 99 in 2021, Bertinelli acknowledges the memories are tinged with grief.
“And then there’s the bittersweetness of not being able to enjoy this with Betty, but she’s so present all the time,” she says. “I just feel like somebody that… How do I say that? Well, yeah, big. That someone that has such a huge aura, she’s always around.”
The TV Land sitcom followed three best friends — played by Bertinelli, Jane Leeves and Wendie Malick — who move from Los Angeles to Cleveland after their plane to Paris makes an emergency landing. The trio ultimately opts to live under the same roof in their new city, after befriending the quick-witted caretaker of their home, played by White.

Bertinelli revisits the show with her new podcast, which she co-hosts with the show’s former executive producer, Todd Milliner. In the show, the duo revisits the series season by season, speaking to former cast members, writers and others who worked behind the scenes. As Bertinelli explains, the podcast allows the cast and crew to “just enjoy being around that joy again.”
