“Poor Lestat, he’s just always worried that he doesn’t have grammar right.” The Vampire Lestat showrunner Rolin Jones put the 265-year-old rock star through the ringer during the season 3 finale, but that doesn’t mean Lestat (Sam Reid) stopped caring about his grammar. Even in what he thought to be his final moments, the vampire corrected himself when apologizing to one of his victims. Although, to be fair, he did have much bigger things to worry about.
As a decapitated Louis (Jacob Anderson) came face-to-face with a vengeful Armand (Assad Zaman) — who really wanted an apology from his former lover — Lestat hung out in a bowling bag. At least his head did, while inside it, the haunting of the muses was in full force as the rock star was forced to reckon with his many, um, complicated life choices. “There wasn’t a scene in episode 7 where we weren’t running and screaming,” Jones says of pulling off the suspenseful hour. “It’s the finale, so you have no time, you’ve run out of money, and you throw everything you can at it.”

And they really did throw everything, leaving Anderson in particular to act without his body for much of the episode. “The biggest consideration we had was: Let’s make it comfortable for Jacob because it’s a very particular thing, how still you have to be with your head,” Jones says.
The person responsible for his uncomfortable position is none other than Armand, who is revealed to be the mastermind behind much of the season, including finding Regina (Delainey Hayles) and orchestrating her interactions with Louis. So the question is: By the end of his time tormenting both Louis and Regina, does Armand feel validated?
“I think he feels properly seen,” Jones says, noting that glimpse of red tears welling up for Armand. But Jones is quick to flag the end of the scene: “He knows he’s gotta get out of there pretty quick, but he does make this gesture of carving his name into his chest.”
Although Jones won’t say too much about what that could mean for the future, he does say that Armand “wanted to leave a mark.”
Speaking of the show’s future, Jones has already said that he considers this season part one of two, but without an official renewal announcement at this point, we’re just hoping we’ll get to see it. But as for what’s left to dig into, Jones says, “The fun part is how do you get from that scene to the opening season auction when [Armand and Louis] are in the same room? How do we get there?”

Furthermore, he says that season 3 was so centered on Lestat that “there’s a lot of stuff that happened off-screen this year,” hinting that those stories could be explored.
Then there’s Louis and Lestat, who had finally maybe started to rekindle something before they both (literally) lost their heads. If we’re lucky enough to get a season 4, Jones says he thinks we’d likely find them “in a pretty good place.” Not that that would last for long.
