Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. exited Monday night’s game against the San Francisco Giants early, potentially due to injury.
Heading into the top of the fifth inning, Witt Jr. was replaced in the field by Nick Loftin. The move is particularly notable coming off a late scratch yesterday due to back tightness, though it’s not yet clear whether his departure from tonight’s contest is related.
Witt Jr. went 0-for-1 with a walk and a strikeout on Monday evening.
The 26-year-old star is having a quality campaign, slashing .280/.350/.451 for an .801 OPS. He has 103 hits, 51 runs, 39 RBI and 13 home runs to this point.
The Royals are 40-60, last in the AL Central prior to the conclusion of tonight’s game against San Francisco.
