(NEXSTAR) — It’s difficult not to love a charismatic movie villain. As clips from Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” have made their way online, filmgoers and social media users alike have fallen for one of its main antagonists, Antinous, played by Robert Pattinson.
After a clip from a scene of Pattinson commanding, “Somebody get these beggars out of here!” hit X, Instagram and TikTok, the phrase and clip have become one of the summer’s biggest memes.
Part of the clip many found funny was Pattinson’s delivery of the line, in addition to its content. One X user responded to a post asking “Why was Pattinson saying beggars like that every single time bro,” by reposting the video with the caption, “Sh-t was a slur back in 1200 BCE.”
Other viral posts of the video include captions like, “Opening a bag of chips at school and the whole class wants some”, “How it feels walking past everyone else to use the AMC A-List concessions line”, and “Apple Store employees when you ask them if the phone you just bought for $2000 has a charger included.”

Pattinson’s Antinous is one of the main suitors who invade Odysseus’ home in Homer’s epic poem. With Odysseus gone and believed possibly dead, these men raid the family’s fortune and supplies, attempt to kill Odysseus’ son Telemachus, and vie for his wife Penelope’s hand in marriage.
For his performance, Pattinson received rave reviews among critics and audiences alike, with the film becoming one of many recent commercial and critical successes for the 40 year-old Brit. The actor has two more major films coming this year, including psychological thriller “Primetime” in September and “Dune: Part Three” in December.
