30 Things To Do In Chicago This Weekend: Gospel Fest, Taste Of Bronzeville, Wicker Park Fest

CHICAGO — The season of the street festival continues as Chicago welcomes back Wicker Park Fest, Festival Del Sol, Taste of Lincoln Avenue and the Chinatown Summer Fair this weekend.

You can get lost in gospel music at the Chicago Gospel Festival, discover the gardens of Ravenswood or eat your way through Bronzeville as the Taste of Bronzeville returns for its annual summer food celebration.

There are also thrift events, block parties, live music and more.

Here’s a roundup of 30 things to do in Chicago this weekend:

Festival Del Sol

Thursday-Sunday

West Cermak Road between Ashland and Morgan avenues, Pilsen

Festival del Sol is returning to Pilsen for a weekend of live music and entertainment, local and regional food vendors, carnival rides and more fun. There will also be cultural programs and art exhibits, along with a college and resource fair. The festival aims to be a display of Chicago Latino presence while promoting community connection.

WNBA Live

Thursday-Saturday

McCormick Place, 2301 S. King Drive, Near South Side

As the WNBA celebrates its fifth All-Star weekend, this time in Chicago, fans can head to McCormick Place for the ultimate WNBA fan experience. Attendees can enjoy showcases and events, plus special activations celebrating the WNBA’s intersection with sports, culture, music, technology and history. Fans will have the chance to meet their favorite players while attending panel discussions, participating in basketball contests and more.

Wicker Park Fest

1165 N. Milwaukee Ave., Wicker Park

Wicker Park fest is back this weekend for the ultimate summertime Chicago celebration, showcasing an eclectic indie music lineup of over 50 emerging artists performing original music, complete with a massive vendor market featuring over 200 small businesses. A Pet Fest puts the spotlight on Wicker Park’s furry friends, plus a wide selection of local food vendors and plenty of kid-friendly spaces.

Taste Of Lincoln Avenue

Friday-Sunday

2500 N. Lincoln Ave., Lincoln Park

Pursue Lincoln Avenue as the Taste of Lincoln Avenue returns for its 42nd year. Catch live music all weekend, plus food from local vendors and whiskey tastings. There will also be activities for children, like a kids’ carnival and arts and crafts sessions. Don’t forget to catch the dog parade, which will showcase the neighborhood’s cutest pups.

Andersonville Sidewalk Sale

Friday-Sunday

4800-5800 N. Clark St., Andersonville

More than 40 businesses lining Andersonville’s retail corridor, along with adjacent side streets, will open up their storefronts to the sidewalk with summer sales, bargains and other deals. Browse one-of-a-kind creations, fashion, furniture and more, complete with independent musicians and artists who will perform throughout the weekend.

‘Anne & Emmett’ One-Act Play

Dusable Black History Museum and Education Center, 740 E. 56th Place, Hyde Park

“Anne & Emmett,” a one-act play, is headed to the DuSable Museum for a powerful performance that imagines a conversation between Anne Frank and Emmett Till in an exploration of history, intolerance and hope.

Chicago Gospel Festival

Millenium Park’s Pritzker Pavilion, 201 E. Randolph St., Loop

Enjoy gospel music all weekend as the Chicago Gospel Festival returns to Millennium Park for its annual celebration of the power of music, featuring a lineup of acclaimed gospel singers including Tasha Cobbs Leonard and the Love Fellowship Choir. Bring a chair or a blanket to spread out on the lawn of the Pritzker Pavilion.

Black & Brown Femme Film Festival

Logan Center for the Arts, 915 E. 60th St., Hyde Park

This two-day film festival centers Black and Brown femme voices in the filmmaking space. There will screenings of 43 films, panels and other special events.

Chinatown Summer Fair

Noon-10 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday

2200 S. Wentworth Ave., Chinatown

The Chinatown Summer Fair is returning for its 47th year in Chinatown with food, an artisan and vendor market and traditional performances, including a dragon and lion dance procession and a kung fu demonstration. There will also be family-friendly activities for all ages, like a children’s area and arts and crafts activations.

Pullman Railroad Days

9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday

Pullman National Historical Park, 610 E. 111th St.

Pullman Railroad Days celebrates trains, technology and more at Pullman National Historical Park. There will be exhibits, railcar tours, demos and pop-ups and live music.

Randolph Street Market

10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday-Sunday

Entrance gates: 1341 W. Randolph St., 1340 W. Washington Blvd., West Loop

Browse the massive Randolph Street Market as the Chicago-based antique fair brings over 200 vendors to the indoor-outdoor venue in the West Loop. Score one-of-a-kind finds like art, antiques, global goods and more. Other highlights include a Chicago artist tent, a raffle, live music, a jazz cabaret and more.

Pizza & Punch Lines

6 p.m. Friday

Paradise Garden, 2214 N. Drake Ave., Logan Square

Head to Paradise Garden, a community garden in Logan Square, to enjoy a night of live comedy and complimentary pizza from Festa Pizzeria. Chicago-based comedian Kevin Williams will host the lineup of three other local comedians. Bring your own chair or blanket to soak in the summer scenery of Paradise Garden. All ages are welcome, but event organizers say that the show is designed for an adult audience.

Fiesta Mexicana Family Concert

6:30 p.m. Friday

Harrison Park, 1824 S. Wood St., Pilsen

Join Sones de Mexico Ensemble as they present “Fiesta Mexicana,” an interactive concert for the whole family presented by the Park District. Head to Harrison Park for songs, storytelling and interactive games in English and Spanish as the ensemble takes you on a journey through Mexican music and the four sacred elements of Aztec nature. Don’t forget your picnic blanket or lawn chair.

Ravenswood Garden Crawl & Happy Hour

9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday

Various locations, Ravenswood

Explore the impressive home gardens in Ravenswood with guided or self-guided tours. Opt to join a group for educational workshops and tours, or set out on your own journey through the neighborhood to explore dozens of gardens on the crawl map. Workshops include native gardening, birding, beekeeping and crafts for kids. Plus, there will be a neighborhood happy hour 3-5 p.m. at Cultivate, 4710 N. Ravenswood Ave., featuring live bluegrass music.

‘Heart Of A Champion’ WNBA Event

10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday

Gerald Ratner Athletics Center, University of Chicago, 5530 S. Ellis Ave., Hyde Park

There will be a free community day dedicated to raising awareness for the cardiovascular health of Black women hosted by Sneakers to Scrubs and Project Love Chicago. The free event includes heart health screenings for adult Black women, a girls’ 3-on-3 basketball tournament, a basketball skills camp and a live WNBA panel to bring light to a community disproportionately impacted by heart disease.

Lemonade Walk

11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday

2600-2900 N. Milwaukee Ave., Logan Square/Avondale

With over 35 participating businesses, this crawl through Logan Square and Avondale allows you to taste lemon-inspired cocktails, spritzes, cookies and other treats. There will also be pop-ups throughout the neighborhood, including a tasting fair, a summer sale at Vintage Frills and live music at the Solidarity Triangle.

Community organizations will share how to get more involved in your community, like Digs with Dignity, Harmony House for Cats and more.

Chicago Thrift Tour

11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday

Thrift LLC, 2517 W. 59th St., Chicago Lawn

Discover your new favorite thrift store in this tour that takes attendees to three Black- and women-owned curated thrift stores. Attendees have the option to meet at each stop along the route or participate with a ticket that provides transportation to each stop. Tickets include light refreshments and special discounts at participating locations.

Street Vendor Bike Tour Series

Chinatown Square Plaza, 2133 S. China Place, Chinatown

Join the Gage Park Cyclists and Cycling Solidarity for a bike tour that will explore a lineup of street vendors. Bike with neighbors while enjoying tamales, tacos and more, then head to local bakery La France to end the day with a sweet treat.

Taste Of Bronzeville

37th Street and South King Drive, Bronzeville

The Taste of Bronzeville is returning for its third year with the food festival’s biggest event yet. Enjoy live entertainment all day while trying bites from neighborhood restaurants, food trucks, bakeries and beverage vendors. There will also be line dancing, DJs, community yoga and other activities.

Cuadra De Colores Art Festival

Cuadra De Colores is coming to Little Village for a day of creativity and community. Browse art from local vendors, jam out to live music and performances, chow down on free food, catch a glimpse at a live painting and make your mark on a community paint-by-numbers mural.

Environment Resource Fair

Learn more about environmental justice in Chicago with the Little Village Environmental Justice Organization as it hosts a resource fair in La Villita Park. There will be community organizations offering resources and updates on local campaigns, plus a live cumbia performance, art activities and snacks.

Kennicott (Jonathan) Park, 4434 S. Lake Park Ave., Kenwood

Join the Àkójọpọ̀ Music Foundation for an evening of music in the park as the foundation celebrates the enduring legacy of Black women composers through chamber music, art song and spirituals. The performance honors voices like Florence Price, Betty Jackson King and more, all inspired by the artistic heritage of Chicago’s South Side.

Night Moves Beer Temple Block Party

The Beer Temple, 3173 N. Elston Ave., Avondale

The Beer Temple is turning its parking lot into a nighttime block party to keep the summertime celebrations going. Enjoy New York-style pizza, DJ sets and, of course, plenty of craft brews from local breweries such as Middle Brow, Suncatcher and more. There will also be a cocktail and wine list.
