Johnny Marr has shared his new song ‘Ophelia’.
Out now, this is the second single to emerge from his incoming solo album ‘The Age Of Everything’, which is set to land on October 2nd.
The legendary songwriter is fresh from a new landmark moment, with Johnny Marr playing the biggest solo show of his life at Manchester’s Castlefield Bowl.
An evocative homecoming, he looked to the future, something defined by new ideas and fresh material.
Clipped guitars point to his indie heritage – a sound he massively contributed to building – but there’s also a verse that feels totally current. The poetic lyrics point to the mythical Ophelia, and it’s a sign of the creative confidence running through Johnny Marr’s work right now.
He comments…
“The character of Ophelia is confounding but there’s a real nobility and strength which reminds me of someone in my life. So the name just stuck and sounded like a song. I thought about the character and I saw quite a few similarities with the Ophelia. As a songwriter, sometimes these things happen where it just sings really well over the track and you go with it. It turned out right.”
Tune in now.
