Lil Wayne is set to join film and music industry royalty on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, earning a star as part of the landmark’s class of 2027, organizers announced Thursday.
The New Orleans rapper will be the latest Crescent City native to get a star on one of the most famous sidewalks in the country. That list includes the likes of Louis Armstrong, Tyler Perry, Harry Connick Jr. and Fats Domino.
As one of the most dominant rappers of the 2000s, Lil Wayne is known for his run of mixtapes and albums where he could take almost any beat and make it his. He won his first Grammy in 2008, taking home four awards for his album “Tha Carter III” and song “Lollipop.” He has since founded the record label Young Money Entertainment.
An icon of the New Orleans hip-hop scene, Lil Wayne has continually represented the Hollygrove neighborhood where he was born.
Last year, New Orleans kicked off its own version of the Walk of Fame on Canal Street, and Lil Wayne was among the first inductees.
The 2027 Hollywood Walk of Fame class has 32 new inductees, including Keke Palmer, The Ramones, Idris Elba, Linkin Park, Pedro Pascal and several other names from across the entertainment industry.
Dates have not yet been scheduled for star ceremonies, organizers said.
