Prince George is very like two famous royals in special photoos

Prince George

The Windsors have always shown a passion for the theatre and a
bit of dram (and we’re talking stage not real life here although
there’s been plenty of chaos there, too) but it was still a bit of
a surprise to see King Charles stake his claim to be the new Doctor
Who as he arrived at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Following in the globally famous footsteps of his mother when it
comes to adding a regal flourish to the monarchical duty of
officially opening sporting events, The King made an appearance at
the start of the spectacle in the Tardis.

In a rather neat little film. Sir Chris Hoy (complete with kilt)
was seen heading to Balmoral which appeared to be exempt from the
wall to wall sunshine across the UK right now with the help of Dr
Who’s famous mode of travel. A few special effects later (sorry,
spoiler there), the Tardis was in Glasgow and King Charles,
eventually, stepped out of it.

Sir Chris exited first to s huge cheer which left his follow up
act in a dangerous position but there was just a big a reception
for King Charles as he stepped out. HM was always partial to the
silly voices and antics of the Goons and did some am dram but he’s
been more reserved about it in recent years, famously refusing to
go anywhere near the disaster that was It’s A Royal Knockout, a
spectacle so cringe worthy it pretty much knocked out the
theatrical aspirations of his younger brother, Edward.

Charles III played along with this little bit of TV magic
although it has to be said that Queen Camilla, who much prefers a
book, looked less impressed with her cameo in the Tardis and rather
keen to get to her seat. Perhaps there had been a royal row on the
way there about who was really the Doctor.

Princess Anne’s less than relaxed
summer

Royal diaries are winding down as everyone heads off on summer
holidays but work can carry on even when the sun is shining.

Princess Anne is packing in the engagements in the early part of
summer with visits to Cowes Sailing Week, a reception for the
Corporation of Trinity House and the Edinburgh Tattoo and that’s
after a trip to the Commonwealth Games. That’s just the last week
of July and the first days of August.

At some point, no doubt, Anne will head off for a break although
in interviews for her 70th birthday, her family revealed that her
holidays usually involve some kind of activity. So even if she does
disappear for a few days this summer, it won’t be long before we
see her again.

Prince George’s unexpected style
statement

Prince George turned 13 this week (obvs you knew this already)
and in his celebration video, he rocked a look that seemed royally
familiar. Those sunnies were reminiscent of Queen Elizabeth II and
Prince Philip.

Don’t say you can’t see it – this is almost identical to that
famous photo of Elizabeth II wearing sunglasses and laughing or
endless photos of Prince Philip looking as cool as any consort has
ever managed. George was exuding confidence in his birthday photo
album, a mighty good thing, and he might just have the effortless
charm of his great grandparents, too, by the looks of things.
