Meghan Markle takes call from Prince Harry during Masterchef appearance

Meghan Markle has taken a call from Prince Harry during her recent appearance on Masterchef Australia. The Duke of Sussex dialled into the show during his wife’s stint as a guest judge in an episode that aired on July 26.

The royal couple’s appearance on the show was filmed during the couple’s four-day visit to Australia in April.

Meghan, 44, was tasting dishes alongside regular judges Poh Ling Yeow, Sofia Levin, and Jean-Christophe Novelli when a crew member walked onto the set holding a phone, telling them, “Sorry to interrupt. We’ve had a call into the studio.”

He hands the phone to Meghan, revealing it is none other than Prince Harry.

“Hi, my love! My husband’s here,” Meghan said, as the camera panned to her fellow judges waving at Harry, 41.

“What’s going on? Have I interrupted something important?” the Duke of Sussex then jokingly asked.

“Well, we are actually in the middle of tasting all the dishes. We have four incredible cooks here. It’s amazing, they’re so talented. We wish you were here,” Meghan replied, telling the judges, “He’s in Canberra right now with the veterans.”

“I wish you could try this. These dishes are fantastic,” she continued to Harry. “It’s really delicious, and there’s a hot sauce that, well, you know me … it is so good. I think it might be too much for you. It’s spicy.”

Prince Harry then tells Meghan: “Well, go and enjoy it. I’m very sorry to disturb you. All is well here. I’ll see you later.”

The group then bursts into a round of applause before the episode continues.

Meghan has increasingly stepped into roles with TV cooking, having been nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for her Netflix series With Love, Meghan, in which she showcased her cooking and hosting skills.

“Food and cooking to me is really a love language,” the duchess says on MasterChef Australia.

“I think it’s such a great way to connect. It’s something that can feel sentimental and meaningful, and it’s how I show my nurturing and love for my friends, family, and my kids.”

During her episode, Meghan revealed that the couple’s children Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, enjoy eating Brussels sprouts while tasting a dish.

Earlier in the episode she spoke of her love of “farm to table” cooking and revealed her mother is an “incredible cook”.

When asked what her favourite dish is to cook for her family, Meghan admitted it is challenging because she has “so many different palates to appease”.

“My husband is from the UK. He loves a lot of meat, potatoes, cream sauce. California girl, I like grilled fish, grilled meats, the citrus. I just like using really pure, natural herbs and spices.”

Meghan then paused to ask how to pronounce “herbs” in Australia and was told the “h” is most definitely included in our pronunciation Down Under.

“Any great herbs and spices,” she continued. “I actually like a lot of heat in my food so anything with a little bit of spiceness, not too much so its overpowering, but really balancing out the flavours and mixing the savoury and the sweet I think is always helpful. Just be playful.”

She revealed Harry can “handle a little spice” and enjoys a curry, and that they barbecue a lot at their home in Montecito.

And she appeared to be very impressed with the contestants’ efforts on the show, lavishing each with praise as she tasted each of their dishes.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently back home in the US at their home in Montecito, following a brief visit to the UK in early July.

During the visit the couple and their children visited with King Charles and Queen Camilla. They also took their children to visit the final resting place of Harry’s mother Princess Diana at her family home, Althorp Estate.
