“Remembering Martin Luther King Jr: A Community Conversation” is a free event celebrating King’s legacy in Nevada City on Monday, January 19. It is from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Nevada City United Methodist Church, 433 Broad Street.
The gathering is hosted by Creating Communities Beyond Bias and Color Me Human, two area non-profits. A series of small group discussions will focus on King’s message as well as racism, justice, and equality. Participants will be encouraged to think of some action they can do to create justice, compassion, or equality in the community.
Andrea Rose, president of Creating Communities Beyond Bias, says, “This is a great opportunity to bring people together so they can reflect on King’s insights and make a difference in Nevada County.”
The two organizations have produced many Martin Luther King Day events in the Nevada City-Grass Valley area over the past years.
The event follows a free performance of the Martin Luther King Community Choir, taking place at noon at Nevada City’s Nevada Theater, 401 Broad Street. The choir is directed by Stan Thomas-Rose and includes choir members from the Bethel AME Church in Marysville.
