ASTORIA – The goal of Astoria’s “Art Mart,” led by Astoria artists Angela Raines and Heather July Goguen began as a test concept by opening a holiday gift market during the winter of 2025 at the Studio Collective Building’s street level space (formerly the location of Astoria Visual Arts) – 1010 Duane St.
The vision was to create an accessible space for local artists and craftspeople to feature their work in the same space permanently.
The group of 20 artists – so far – has achieved their goal. The Astoria Art Mart will be open Thursday through Sunday each week from noon to 5 p.m.
“I feel like we proved the concept,” said Goguen. “It was an overwhelmingly positive response from the public.”
That concept is 100% of sales back to the artists in exchange for a monthly fee to support the lease. Raines said the “by artists, for artists” model was key when structuring the group.
“Our clear message and focus on supporting artists has spread in our community. We are providing a space between artists and their audience that was missing in Astoria. A place to grow,” said Raines. “I am proud of what we’ve set out to build. I’m hopeful we can maintain it as our group shifts in numbers.”
