Will Rogers is considered by many to be “Oklahoma’s Favorite Son.” He was also a Cherokee Nation citizen born on Nov. 4, 1879, in the Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory, near Oologah.
As an entertainer and humorist, the “Cherokee Kid” traveled around the world three times, made 71 films (50 silent films and 21 “talkies”) and wrote more than 4,000 nationally syndicated newspaper columns. By the mid-1930s, the American people adored Rogers. He was the leading political columnist of his time and was the highest paid Hollywood film star.
Today, the Will Rogers Memorial Museum, located at 1720 West Will Rogers Boulevard in Claremore, houses the world’s largest collection of Will Rogers memorabilia and his entire collection of writings.
